I made this chest for a friend as a wedding gift. It's made of reclaimed flooring out of a historic building's attic - most likely maple - with as much of the patina as possible left intact. It's lined with cedar, a traditional (and effective) insect repellent, and the exterior is finished in Festool's Surfex oil for heavy-duty applications, which is meant to handle more than I'd ever expect this chest to. The sides are floating panels to best allow for expansion/contraction and the mitered corners are secured with loose tenons.
